exploring the forgotten nooks of your own backyard on a rainy summers day can see you landing in some seriously sweet spots.
this place is down the road from my old family home, and my only previous visit as an enthusiastic kid ended in disaster when i dropped my toy labrador in the fish pond. despite her being rescued by supermum, she never smelt quite the same and i've harboured a slight resentment of koi fish ever since.
this time around though i left the stuffed animals at home and instead spent the afternoon getting snap happy with all the exotic flora at begonia house (wellington botanical gardens). and bonus, the humid weather meant the tropical temperatures inside the glasshouse barely registered!
